Yamagishi Mantaro has designed the garden of Yamaoka-tei for 18 years. As he has gotten older, he has been able to suggest higher quality garden designs that meet the client's requests. During the past18 years, he has rebuilt the house. The pattern of the wall is samon -style (traditional Japanese pattern of sand) that Yamagisi requested because he wanted to make traditional Japanese gardens go well with the Western style house. The image of the garden is that sansui (a garden with a pond and an artificial hill) style tea garden. The following stones are used: chōzu-bachi kakei , soe-mizu , kōren-tennyo-seki , etc. About 3.3 meters long mikage-ishi was used for the stone bridge.
